Continuing our series on the products you can find here at Boreto & Cardoso, today we will talk about two products widely used for disinfection. Here we go!

1. Sodium Hypochlorite

Commonly known as household bleach, Sodium Hypochlorite is obtained by reacting chlorine with a dilute Caustic Soda solution. At high concentrations it can only be sold to industry, because the version available to consumers is sold only as household bleach, which has a lower concentration of the chemical.

Sodium Hypochlorite is used to clean surfaces, whiten white clothes and sanitize fruit and vegetables, as well as to purify water so that it is clean enough for human consumption.

In case of accidental skin contact at doses above what is considered safe, wash the exposed area immediately with running water; symptoms such as redness and itching may appear. Use protective equipment when handling the product in its pure form. When used according to the recommendations, it poses no danger to humans.

2. Hydrogen Peroxide

Known in Brazil as água oxigenada, Hydrogen Peroxide is a colorless liquid with a strong smell. It is widely used as an antiseptic, but not for cuts or on human skin in general, because it can slow wound healing and even lead to complications. It is recommended for cleaning rooms and objects.

It is not advisable to keep the product near metals or organic matter, because even though it is not flammable, it can cause combustion on contact with these materials.

In practice, consumers can use it to clean areas affected by mold or mildew, to wash household appliances and even some foods.
