Production of chemicals for industrial use rose 12.2% in April in Brazil, and sales rose 16.3% in March, according to data from the Brazilian Chemical Industry Association (Associação Brasileira da Indústria Química).
Together with rising domestic demand, these figures show that the country is a power in terms of strategic activity in the chemical industry.
Brazil has the technological capacity to produce 700 chemical products out of just 800 on a global scale. The chemical industry currently operates at 74% of installed capacity and accounts for 2 million related jobs.
The challenge is to grow in a world that does not accept "unsustainable" products. The industry's growth potential will contribute to the country's economic and social development through 5 pillars:
- Sustainability and the strategic nature of the chemical industry;
- Natural gas;
- Bioproduct production and inputs;
- Renewable energy;
- Sanitation.
Brazil has countless opportunities to produce green hydrogen, ethanol, second-generation ethanol, and solar and wind energy on a global scale, but the cost of the transition still has to be overcome.
