Anyone with a pool at home knows it needs regular cleaning and proper maintenance to keep the water fit for swimming, because when that does not happen, the dreaded green water can appear and make cleaning much more complicated.
For this process to be done correctly, products such as chlorine, clarifier and algaecide are essential. Here is what each one does:
• Chlorine: Disinfects the water, eliminating living microorganisms that can cause disease in humans.
• Clarifier: The product responsible for the water's transparent appearance; it removes small impurities and keeps the pool crystal clear.
What About Algaecide? What Is It For?
Algaecide is an essential product for looking after your pool.
It should be applied at least once a week to prevent the growth of algae, which can turn the water green, making the pool unfit for swimming and extremely slippery, and can even cause accidents. These algae usually appear after rainy days or when the pool is little used and poorly looked after, especially in outdoor pools.
How Should I Use It?
There are two types of algaecide that are essential for treatment: Maintenance Algaecide and Shock Algaecide.
For weekly pool treatment, use Maintenance Algaecide, always paying attention to the label instructions to use the right amount for the brand you have chosen. As a general example, it can be used as follows:
• Dosage: 3 to 5 ml for every 1,000 liters of water. • Application: At least once a week. • Filter: Set to the recirculate position for 1 hour for complete treatment.
To treat an algae infestation, use Shock Algaecide, which provides a deeper, more effective treatment capable of killing the algae that serve as food for bacteria and fungi.
In this case, as well as using the algaecide, it is important to increase the chlorine dosage so that it helps remove impurities and microorganisms from the water. After that, read the instructions on the algaecide label carefully and start the treatment. As a general example, it can be used as follows:
• Brushing: Brush the bottom and walls of the pool thoroughly to help remove the algae. • Dosage: Dilute 10 ml of algaecide in water. • Application: Mix the product into the water and spread it evenly over the whole pool. • Filter: Set to the recirculate position for 2 hours for complete treatment.
Important: The product should only be used in pools where the chlorine level is below 2 ppm.
Always take care and pay attention when using chemical products.
